The Word KUPU #15 - Je t'aime Hayr

On writing a successful children's book and how to be present & mindful as a conscious parent, whilst simultaneously juggling one's own creative drive.
2

It was an absolute delight having Je t'aime Hayr on the podcast. She really brought a refreshing and honest viewpoint. About being a mother and how she juggles (and sometimes struggles) with being a creative, whilst simultaneously trying to raise her own kids. She talks very candidly about her past, both personal and vocational, a time where she wore many different hats not only as a TV presenter but also a radio show host, beauty editor, copy writer, marketing guru (though she will loathe me writing this last one, but it’s true,) and much more.

There was even a time in Je t’aime’s life where she barely left the house without lipstick and heels - these days, however, when she's not writing, you'll find her running after her twin boys, playing hide and go seek with them and managing the seeming chaos a busy household that such a double whammy of offspring brings with it.

During her twin pregnancy, Je t'aime realised that there were far to few resources for mamas, and so she brought it upon herself to create tools that made parenthood easier for those that were already juggling so much with so little time. Have a look at her Sassy Mama website for useful resources and tools on how to deal with the often hectic work life balance being a working mum entails.

Check it out, there are some real gems in there.

A parent, a genius writer and a mindfulness enthusiast

Je t’aime is an immensely gifted writer and recently penned a beautiful piece on her Substack entitled Why you should support small, local businesses - have a read, subscribe and maybe even consider supporting her with an annual subscription!

A deeply spiritual person, her experience with prenatal depression saw her train as a mindfulness teacher. She is passionate about conscious parenting and self-published her children's mindfulness book, The Little Tiger with the Big Temper in 2021.

Je t’aime’s guided meditations can be found on Insight Timer. As a total amateur meditator, I found her Light of healing & love extremely beneficial for bringing my anxiety levels down and in general making my day feel better and more relaxed. Try it out and sign up for her other meditations.

Listeners of The Word can get 10% off of the purchase price of Je t’aime’s The Little Tiger with the Big Temper: Just add the code: HAPPYXMAS2U at checkout to get 10% off until midnight on Dec 20th.

Thanks Je t’aime, we LOVE YOU too!!

Here a bit more about the book:

One morning, Tootles the tiger wakes up in a grrrizzly mood! Luckily, his friend Pippin the gibbon teaches him to find a sense of calm.

Do your little ones need help coping with stress, anxiety or frustration and would you like to stay calm during the chaos of tantrums and meltdowns?

This book will increase your child’s resilience, focus and well being.

The Little Tiger with the Big Temper is the world's first picture book crafted to educate adults and kids. This fun, rhyming story teaches mindfulness and conscious communication techniques to build connected relationships and help little ones grow into kind, resilient and emotionally stable adults.

Show notes

An added statistic to the discussion (as we unfortunately got cut off by a technical glitch) about mums who have multiple babies at once, studies have shown that a staggering 85% of multiple mums experience postnatal depression due to how hard it is to have more than one baby at once.

Good books as recommended by Je t’aime in the podcast:

If the Buddha Had Kids : Raising Children to Create a More Peaceful World
by Charlotte Kasl

Zen and the art of raising children to make peace in the world.

In this wise and insightful volume, Charlotte Kasl applies her signature blend of spiritual guidelines, exercises, and practical advice to a stage of life that leaves many of us searching for answers. If the Buddha Had Kids draws from Buddhist, Quaker, and other spiritual traditions to help parents raise children who value cooperation, compassion, and understanding, emphasizing that finding peace within a family is the first step toward creating a peaceful world.

The Conscious Parent : Transforming Ourselves, Empowering Our Children
by Dr Shefali Tsabary

A New York Times bestseller (as I’m sure The Little Tiger with the Big Feelings will become shortly as well)

Conscious parenting is about becoming mindful of your behaviour and engaging with your child as an individual.

Dr Tsabary inspires parents to get back in touch with their emotions and shed the layers of baggage they have inherited during their own life and are unconsciously heaping on their children. As they become 'conscious' in their parenting, so parents can transform their relationship with their offspring and raise happy, well-adjusted children.

The Conscious Parent is already transforming the way people are parenting through its sales in the US where it's spent 15 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list. Oprah described the book as 'The most profound book on parenting I've ever read' and Eckhart Tolle has said 'becoming a conscious parent is the greatest gift you can give your child.'

The book features a foreword by His Holiness The Dalai Lama.
