This podcast was a bit different to the usual as I approached it from a different angle. Pebbles Hooper is a writer, designer, entrepreneur and artist who works out of Auckland. A lot has been written about her and her family due to her lovely parents being the wunderkind geniuses behind the WORLD fashion label. As such, Pebbles has been in the limelight from a young age and has gotten used to her every move being scrutinised and monitored, whether online or in the real world. Her voice is a unique one in New Zealand, politically ambiguous and deeply cognizant of the human psyche. She does not care what people think and she is not afraid of using her voice and speaking her opinion. Even if it gets her into trouble.
Since her personal life and past has already been mulled over ad nauseum in the media, I wanted to run this podcast in a different way. I have been having discussions with Pebbles for a few months now and wanted to capture some of the incredible insight she has into even the most nuanced topics such as quantum physics, astronomy, religion, mathematics and psychology. As such you will hear how eloquent easily she holds a conversation about the nature of neutrino stars, what’s on the other side of a black hole, quantum entanglement, the intricacy of the Hebrew alphabet and much much more.
It was refreshing talking to such a lateral thinking individual and I hope our discussion will spark some cerebral fortitude in your own heads. These are big questions that all of us have thought about. Life, death, DNA, simulation theory, Fermi’s paradox and other existential questions for the ages. Due to her outspoken nature and her need to point out wrong doings, Pebbles has made some influential enemies in the superficial kiwi “instagram influencer” community, hence they bully her and report her to Instagram for the most asinine reasons, so she is now on the 25th iteration of her private instagram account, you can find her Twittersphere here - a word of warning, it is not for the faint hearted - as Pebbles has a good way of irritating everyone somehow, always. But she is a much needed brain and voice in our country, especially now, during these tumultuous times. When discussing ethics and philosophy, she often sounds like Immanuel Kant fused with John Stuart Mill. A modern day reincarnation of Aristotle fused with platonic ideals and lateral thoughts about the world.
