The Word KUPU #5 - Silja Litvin

A conversation on how to engage and ultimately help people struggling with mental health in our increasingly digital world.

This week we have Silja Litvin on the show. Silja is a psychologist, honorary Research Associate at UCL in London and founder of the multimedia mental health company PsycApps. As a licensed psychologist Silja specialises in systemic psychology, anxiety, depression and the complex science of relationships. She is one of the world’s leading experts in the burgeoning field of ‘mobile mental health’ and has been published in several peer reviewed journals. Her company has released two evidence-based mental health applications for smart phones, eQuoo: Emotional Fitness Game and Equoo Next Generation with background story lines created by the legendary writer and comic book script icon Arie Kaplan.

What makes Silja’s mental health story line apps so unique and sets them apart from the rest, is that they have been run through and tested in rigorous randomised clinical trials and as such have evidence based science backing up their efficacy. These apps are incidentally also the only two apps presented in the British healthcare system’s NHS online library for use in mental health.

Our conversation is very intriguing, funny and insightful for those interested in mental health and the impact of artificial intelligence, the difference between gamifying and gamification and how to juggle being the founder of a multinational start-up whilst simultaneously raising 14 month old twins.

Next level motherhood indeed!

The mental health apps have also been featured in Forbes magazine and TechCrunch. Silja’s company. PsycApps has also won multiple awards including THE EUROPAS Pitch Awards and Pitch@Palace on Tour.

You’ll really enjoy this conversation. Send us some feedback and try out her applications.
